Birchbox Goodies – March 2016

Just in time for spring! This month’s Birchbox did not disappoint. It was mostly loaded with with skin and hair products, but I am not complaining. I am officially stocked at least until my next box arrives ;). So let’s begin!

Lumiere D’Hiver Clarifying Shampoo and Mask

As I have mentioned in my previous posts, I managed to do some damage to my hair with drugstore clarifying shampoos. With that said, when I received it in my Birchbox this month I was very hesitant to use it. My first reaction was to look at the ingredients, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was paraben, sodium chloride and sulfate free. I quickly did a reference against my other clarifying shampoo and I was NOT surprised to find out that it included all of the aforementioned ingredients. Well no wonder my hair snapped off in a matter of weeks! What made me feel even more comfortable with using this product, is that it came with a complimentary conditioning masks to be used afterwards. This sealed the deal for me and I proceeded to the shower. Now at first glance this shampoo is very, very thick! I meal, almost glue like. So you have to wet your hair again after you apply this product on your wet head, otherwise it does not lather easily. However, once you get it going, it is pretty much like any other shampoo. It does take a little longer to wash out/off, so be patient.

The conditioning mask was really like any other conditioner. I applied it from roots to ends, just to be sure that I have not created more problems with the clarifying shampoo. I let it sit for about five minutes before rinsing. I let my hair air dry afterwards and it felt normal. I can’t say that it was drier or silkier than usual and to be completely honest I am glad for that as well. I did not need any more issues. My take on this product is that I would definitely use it during summer time when pool sessions begin, or after having some major product induced work done on my hair. I like the fact that it does not contain any of those harmful ingredients that other clarifying shampoos tend to be loaded with, however would I use this shampoo on a regular basis? No! I like to keep my hair nice and hydrated.

 SuperGoop Everyday Sunscreen

I haven’t had the chance to use this product yet, however based on my experience with other SuperGoop products, I just can’t see how this item can disappoint. I like it so far just for being a small sample that you can keep in your bag and apply as needed during the summer time. Geared with 50 SPF, it is a perfect little gadget to have on hand during those scorching days or even when you travel.

 TreStique Shadow Crayon

OMG – OBSESSED! So far I have tried three different products from TreStique and I absolutely adore each and every one of them! From lipstick, to blush stick, to now shadow crayon – this brand has quickly become my go to. Not only is it great quality (chemical free), but absolutely all of their products are in some form of a pen, stick, crayon or pencil. To me, this is pure genius, as it is very simple to apply. So how do I feel about my TreStique shadow crayon? I adore it! It is light on application, which allows to build color, it is also silky and non greasy. Plus it came in a perfect color for moi!

 White and Elm Antioxidant Serum

This is an anti aging serum to be used as a primer under makeup to fight damage throughout the day and/or to use at night to recover your skin from daily wear. Packed with powerful ingredients such as jojoba, grapeseed, rosehip, evening primrose, avo, argan, sweet orange, lavender and vitamin E, this serum is another way to moisturize your face. Personally, it was a bit heavy for me, but it might also be because I proceeded to apply over dry skin, where directions indicate – damp. It was a bit greasy and I would only consider using this over night.

 Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Oil

Another serum! Promises to minimize appearance of dry fine lines and is to be applied before putting on makeup and/or before bed. Again, this formula is a bit too much for my skin, so I will only use it over night. I will say though, that my skin felt much softer and not as dry as before after use. So perhaps these will be saved for those cold winter months when skin needs more nourishment than usual.

What did you get in your box this month?
