Winter is in full swing and even though I am a bit late with this post – better late than never! This winter I made a conscious effort to take care of my skin and I must say I am definitely seeing results. Usually, my skin would get dry and a bit flaky from the brutal, cold air. However, this winter I have managed to work out a regimen that keeps my face hydrated, moisturized and blemish free!
One of the changes that I made this time around is switching to a gentler exfoliator. I was always a fan of St. Ives Apricot Scrub, and don’t get me wrong I still use it in the summer time. However, when your skin has already taken a beating from the cold and now you are scrubbing it on top of that – no surprise – you will end up with major dry patches. What I recommend is switching to an exfoliator that is not as grainy as some of the traditional scrubs. You want to nourish your skin during this time, not strip it off all of the oils and moisture. This year I have come across an army of exfoliators that are gentle, soothing and will not put your skin through more torture. I highly recommend Vasanti Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator or Dr. Brandt PoreDermabrasion Pore Perfecting Exfoliator. Both of these products are gentle, but also strong enough to do the job. Never skip the toner! It is so easy and quick that it is unacceptable not to make it part of your routine. Purpose of the toner is to remove any dust, film or any residuals that were left on your face by your cleanser. For those lazy souls such as myself, mine is in a spritzing bottle, this way I don’t even have to put it on a cotton ball. Just a few quick sprays and I am ready for my moisturizer. Once my toner dries, which takes literally 30 seconds, my face is ready for the next round of moisturization in the form of BB or CC Cream. Lately, I have switched to a CC as it provides more coverage and protection for your skin. My choice is the Super Goop CC Cream. Why I love it? Plain and simple: SPF + tone correction and good coverage of blemishes and small wrinkles. I am pretty sure that once warm weather rolls around I will switch back to a lighter BB Cream. I am also not afraid to go a little heavy with it. The more the better! Protect that skin from the cold and UV rays. If you are not into the whole BB/CC/DD and whatever else phenomena, then by all means use a good moisturizer that has some SPF in it. Murad has a great one that goes hand in hand with their hydrating toner. The Sheer Lustre Day Moisturizer hydrates your skin as well as delivering a sheer glow.
Now that was your everyday morning ritual, but there is always something extra you can do in the evening and overnight to help keep your skin protected and in tip top shape for the day ahead. Try to squeeze in a hydrating mask, be it a sheet or traditional. Twenty minutes is all you really need and you do not have to do this every night. You can do a hydrating mask twice or three times a week, or as the time allows. As long as you squeeze it in here and there your face will thank you for it later.
Next part is the best part as it requires no effort on your part. All of the work is done by the product and all while you are sleeping. Invest in a good, hydrating, overnight face moisturizer. Slap it on before bed and let it work its magic. No sweat for you! One of the products that I can personally recommend is the GlamGlow Hydrating Treatment.
