February 2016 Birchbox – Valentines Goodies

Keeping up with my promise of doing monthly reviews on my Birchbox goodies. This month it was a special one due to V – Day and I am pretty pleased and excited for all of the samples that I received. So let me not waste any time and get to it!

First item on my list is the Whish Renewing Mud Mask. Although it might not seem like it is an exfoliator, trust me when I say that it is. The formula is very gentle and refreshing, but it does the job of any generic exfoliator. Free of parabens and sulfates, this mud mask is loaded with rose hip oil and bakuchiol which helps to remove dead skin and moisturize -all in one shot! I highly recommend this product as I saw immediate results. It is also very gentle on your skin should you use it in combination with a facial cleansing brush. It does not dry out or irritate your skin what so ever!  Will I repurchase? YES I WILL!

whish_renewing-mud-mask_900x900Lip Tar Matte is the next product that I was very happy with. Although the formula is a bit thick and heavy, the pigmentation is to die for! Here are my tips: definitely use a lipliner with this stain and apply the stain with a lip brush! You will need as much precision as possible since this formula is strong and it is very easy to get it all over yourself. However, once you are done, you will be very impressed with how the color comes out! Mine was a deep raspberry and this shade is perfect for the gloomy winter months! Now, million dollar question – would I repurchase? Well, honestly although this lip stain is pretty rad, I find it a bit heavy for me. I am not as good with applying loose, liquid lip products and they do intimidate me a bit, so I will be sticking to my regular lipsticks and glosses for the time being.

I can never have enough highlighters! So Cynthia Rowley’s Illuminator couldn’t have come in at a better time. This smooth formula is great at adding shimmer to your complexion, whether used over all or just on your cheekbones. Another bonus is that this product comes in a brush applicator when you purchase it in regular size. I will be repurchasing this for sure.

Next item is hair related. As you might already know, I have flat, pin straight hair that needs a lot of help in the volume department. That is where Amika: Bombshell Blowout Spray comes in. This spray is not only to volumize, but it also nourishes, protects and moisturizes. This spray is packed with the powerful buckthorn berry that will feed your hair with antioxidants, vitamins and fatty acids. Putting all of the scientific facts aside, here is what I have personally experienced when using this product. Applying it on damp hair, I sprayed it liberally all over right before blow drying on high. I used a round brush on my front sections and I have to say that my hair felt light, volumnus, but at the same time it fell right into place. No frizz, no unmanagable flyaways, just a great easy blow out.

Last, but not least is the Catherine Malandrino Romance de Provence perfume. Citrusy, light scent is perfect for those hot summer months. This perfume reminds me of a tropical vacation – light, sweet and fruity! Not something I would wear during winter months, but this is definitely something that will be getting some action come June ;).
