Whether you live in NYC or just visiting, there are a few mandatory things that you absolutely must do during the Holiday Season. Understandably so, tourists flock to our city during the month of December and it is quite impossible to get through midtown around this time of the year. Since midtown holds most of the holiday activities in our city, I have selected some absolute musts for you below.
See the Tree!
Okay there is no ifs, ands or buts about this one. Seeing THE tree at the Rockefeller Center is a must! If you can be there for the tree lighting – even better! This tree is really all that it is cracked out to be and the pictures come out beautifully. Bonus – ice skating rink is right there! Which brings me to the second activity on the “To Do” must.
There is more than one place to go ice skating in NYC during winter time. Rockefeller Center, Bryant Park’s Winter Village or Central Park – you choose! Either one, you won’t regret it. All three areas will provide much entertainment and other activities aside from just ice skating, so you will kill two birds with one stone for sure.
Bryant Park Winter Village
If you want a true holiday shopping experience, then look no further. Bryant Park’s Winter Village has over 125 boutique shops, covering everything from apparel, to jewelry, to food, to decorations, to accessories and much more. It is really entertaining and a great holiday activity as you will run into more than one little shop that will be selling holiday decorations and various tchotchkes. Believe me when I say that you can kill about half a day there, easy!
Yes, a true holiday story and really a performance that is worth all of the hype. There are many performances throughout the city, but the one to see this year is at the Lincoln Center, George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker, click the link for more info. If you are looking for something a little less traditional, here is a link where you can find other performances of The Nutcracker throughout NYC this holiday season.
Department Store Decorations
Go over to Saks, Lord and Taylor and Macy’s to see the amazing, head spinning decorations that are put up every single year, but they are also upgraded every single year to be bigger and better. This year’s Saks Fifth Ave holiday decorations are absolutely off the chains! I do not want to give away too much, but I will give you a sneak peek below and keep in mind that there is an actual line to see the decorations.
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular
Last, but never ever the least is the Radio City Christmas Spectacular! Another NYC must if you are in town! Nothing is more synonymous with NYC holiday season, than The Radio City Christmas Spectacular. The Rockettes is another reason to go see this show. It is a crowd pleaser and you will definitely get into the holiday spirit after seeing this performance. I will not go into details, because I do not want to give much away, but even the inside of Radio City is decked out in some of the most amazing decorations that you will ever come across.
I hope that you will do at least one of these activities when in NYC this holiday season and if you live here, then you have no excuses at all!
